Humans of New York Part 1/2
“Isn’t that the Bronx though? That desperation, that lack of resources, and all this trauma already. Then we retraumatize ourselves with a lack of self-care and self-love. Especially mothers. [T]he unsupported new mother is the most tragic thing on the planet. This thing here, this meat suit, was created in service of humanity. Nobody serves this species more than us. Not just physically, but emotionally too. If you can make mothers whole and full, you’ll have a whole generation of kids who can solve our problems. But we need resources, and space. We need space for that.”

Humans of New York 2/2
“When you walk in this space you take a breath at how beautiful it is. Even if you’re tired and stressed, you’ll leave happy. And that’s exactly what this community needs: a space to heal. The biggest hurt here is that I didn’t give myself that space. In the beginning I was working 16 hours a day. I wasn’t sleeping. I wasn’t getting paid. For the first five years I moved into the studio with my son. Customers were watching me raise him with nothing but a hot plate, a fridge, and a toaster. And it wasn’t OK. It wasn’t OK for us to live in public like that. But there was supposed to be a payoff. I had a plan.”
THANK YOU!
A deep bow in gratitude to Humans of New York creator Brandon Stanton for this timely and Sweet Water saving feature, and to the incredible global community of HONY fans for the outpouring of love and support!
And to all the Momma’s around the world making magic out of nothing, and bathtubs out of storage bins…
